Physical Activity Training for OST Staff
A World Fit for Kids! is offering four 90 minute physical activity/SEL trainings to Expanded Learning Program youth workers in Los Angeles County. These workshops are facilitated by Dr. Gale Gorke, who is well known nationally and internationally for her exciting and informational training. Thanks to a generous donation by Kaiser Permanente these workshops are offered at no cost to participants!
The workshops focus on strategies and activities that demonstrate how to integrate exemplary practices in OST programs that improve students’ physical and mental health, social-emotional well-being and improve academic performance.
Objectives for the training sessions include:
- Understanding of Fundamental Motor Skills and how these skills affect learning in general, confidence and capability and overall healthier lifestyles and decision making.
- Developing and practicing the skills necessary to select and implement activities that easily integrate physical activity into everyday lessons, regardless of student ability, course content, or grade level while fostering greater student engagement and motivation.
- Developing an understanding of the 14 Self-Care Practices – their role in healthier choices, acquisition of Social/Emotional {SEL} Skills, coping with difficulties and stress, and encouraging a more active and healthier lifestyle.
